January 27,1947

We left Altona 4 minutes before 3:30. Arrived at Neche 10 minutes before 4, had to wait 10 minutes. Left Neche 20 minutes before 5. #8 Arrived in Fargo 9:25. We couldn't stay in Fargo overnight, we had to go to Wolfarton. Arrived at a quarter to 11, stayed overnight. Have driven 224 miles. Now we are on #75.

January 28, 1947

We had a bit of trouble. Left 7:20. Arrived at Kent 20 minutes before 8, Breckenridge at 8, hardly any snow. Saw some ravens. Wheaton, 20 minutes before 9. Graceville at 9:05, Canby at 10:45, it is a pretty, small town. 11:30 - 400 miles from home. It is snowing at Lake Benton; a very big town. Filled up with gas. We ate dinner, very good food for 60 cents. Arrived in Iowa 5 minutes before 1:30. Sioux Center at 2:25, passed through Lenars at 3:05, passed through Sioux City at 4:20. It was pulverating* with fresh snow. But south of Sioux City there is no more snow. Drove 137 miles in snow. Went through Omaha 5:05, arrived in Missouri Valley for the night. Paid $5.00 for a cabin.

January 29, 1947

7:20 we left Missouri Valley. It is very hilly over here. 8:30 we went through Council Bluff, a very big city. Went over a river and there is no ice on it. Up to Omaha, a very big city. It snowed again and it was so slippery that we had to be pushed out of Omaha onto a mountain. 10:30 we went through Nebraska City. It is still very slippery. It is raining, 11:10 in Auburn. We left Auburn at 4:30. Had to go to a garage. We saw the first wading**. It rained south of Auburn. 11:30 we arrived at Yates Center(Kansas). We left #75 to go onto #54. 2:30 went through a big city. Arrived at Haviland at 7:00. We drove all night. Lots of fog.

January 30, 1947

Left Nebraska at 10:45 into Oklahoma. This afternoon we have very nice weather. The sun is shining very warmly. Arrived in Dalhart, Texas at 1:30. Now it is getting very warm. This is the first time we saw people work on the land. Sky, Earth and Tumbleweed. Arrived for the night at Vaughn. Went 504 miles. We paid 85 cents for our supper and $1.25 for a bed. It is very bright here for a long time already before the sun rises. Sunrise at 8:00. We have driven through lots of mountainous country already. A very crooked country.

January 31, 1947

Left Vaughn at 7:10, went into some snow again. Went through Corona at 8:10. Went through Carrizozo, New Mexico at 9:15. We are 146 miles away from El Paso yet. We ate the noon meal at Orogrande, $1.00 per meal. Came into El Paso at 2:00. Left Ousrius at 4:30. We arrived in Chihuahua at 10:30. Took a room in a hotel.

Hatten ein bischen Trubel verlieszen 20 minuten uber 7 trafen Kent, 20 minuten vor 8 Breckenridge at 8 Zusagen kein Schnee. Sahen sohm Raben. Wheaton 20 vor 9. Graceville at 9:05. Canoby 10:45 - ist eine schone kleine Stadt. 11:30 - 400 meil von Haus. Es Schneit sind bei Lake Benton eine ziemlich grosze Stadt Benton nahen Gas. Nun aszen Mittah gutes Essen zu 60 cts. 5 minuten vor halb 2 in Iowa hineingefahren. Sioux Center 2:25. Passed through Lemars 5 past 3. Passed through Sioux City 20 past 4 - es war sehr pulverartig von donn frischen Schnee aber Sud von Sioux City ist nicht mehr Schnee sind so 135 Meil in Schnee gefahren. Fuhren durch Omaha 5 uber 5. Kamen au nacht bis Missouri Valley 6:30 bekamen eine Cabin fur $5.00.

20 minuten uber 7 gings los von Missouri Valley. Es ist hier sehr Huglich. 8:30 fuhren wir durch Council Bluff eine ziemlich grosze Stadt. Fuhren uber einen River kein Eis im River, noch Omaha eine grosze Stadt. Es schneite wieder es war so glatt muszten uns aus Omaha heraus schieben auf einen Hugel. Halb 11 fuhren Wir durch Nebraska City es ist nah immer ziemlich glatt. Es regnet. 10 minuten uber 11 in Auburn. Verlieszen Auburn 4:30 muszten in die Garage. Wir sahen das erste Waten. (mileage 54250) geregnet sud von Auburn. 20 minuten uber 11 kamen wir bis Yates Center (Kansas), fuhren von #75 auf no #54. Halb 3 fuhren wir durch eine grosze Stadt. Kamen Uhr 7 in Haviland an haben die Nacht uber gefahren. Wiel Nebel.

January 30,1947

Vietel vor 11 kamen wir aus Nebraska in Oklahoma. Heute nachmittag ist es schon gans schon. Die Sonne scheint sehr warm. Kamen halb 2 in Dalhart, Texas durch jetzt ist es schon sehr schon. Sahen den ersten auf dem Land Schaffen. Himel, Erde und Kurrei. Kamen zur Nacht bis Voughn. Meil gefahren - 504. Zahlten 85 cts fur abend brot und $1.25 fur bett. Es ist hier schon lange hell ehe die Sonne aufgeht. Uhr 8 ist die Sonne auf. Wir sind schon durch viel sehr Hugliches Land gefahren. Eine sehr verbogene Country.

January 31, 1947

Fuhren 10 minuten uber 7 aus Voughn trafen nah wieder Schnee. Fuhren durch Corona 10 minuten uber 8. 15 minuten uber 9 durch Carrizozo (New Mexico) ist noch 146 Miel von El Paso. Mittag gegessen in Orogrande $1.00 die Mahlzeit. Fuhren in El Paso Uhr 2 hinein. Fuhren halb 5 aus Ousrius heraus. Wir kamen halb 11 in Chihauhau anbekamen eine Stube im Hotel.

Left the Mexican villages at 7:00 in the morning. Arrived at Cuauhtemoc at 8:00. 10:30 at Chihuahua. Left Chihuahua at 5:00. Arrived at Juarez at 11:30 at night. Stayed at a hotel overnight.

February 20, 1947

Arrived at El Paso at 9:30. Ate breakfast and lunch together at 11:00. Left at 11:30 and arrived in White City at 4:00. We stayed overnight because tomorrow morning we want to see a cave which is 7 miles from here.

February 21, 1947

Arrived at the cave at 8:20. Bought tickets for $1.50. Went in at 8;30 and came out at 11:40. When we had seen everything we ate the noon meal. Mileage - 57625 Left the cave at 12:30. Arrived again at White City and had some beer and then we went to the Carlsbad Caverns at 3:30. Drove 727 miles. 5:30 through Lamesa. Bought a new glass(window) for the car door.

February 22, 1947

Arrived for night at Snyder 1:00 supper. Left here at 7:15. Arrived at Breckenridge at 10:00. Went to El Reno, Oklahoma for the night. Drove 436 miles. Left 5:50 and arrived at 8:00 in Columbus for the night.

February 23, 1947

Columbus.

February 24, 1947

Left Columbus at 5:10. Went up to Yorkton, ate breakfast at 8:00. There is a bit of a snowstorm. Ate the noon meal at 2:30 in Sissetem. Went through Fargo at 5:50. Arrived in Grand Forks for the night.

February 25, 1947

Left Grand Forks at 10:00 in the morning and we had a very big snowstorm up to Neche.

Verlaszen Mexicodie Dorher 7 uhr Morgens. 8 Uhr nach Cuauhtemoc. Halb 11 nach Chih. (Chihuahua, Mexico) Verlietzen Chih. 5 Uhr kamen des Nachts halb 12 Uhr nach Juarez. Blieben im Hotel uber Nacht.

Kamen Uhr halb 10 bis El Paso. Assen Uhr 11 Fruhstuck und Mittag zusamzen fuhren halb 12 aus El Paso und kamen Uhr 4 in White City an da ubernachteten wir Morgen morgenens wollen wir nach die Hohle fahren es ist noch so bei 7 meil.

Freitag, 21 February, 1947

Kamen des Morgens zur Hohle 20 minuten uber 8. Kauften Tickets - $1.50. 8:30 gingen wir hinein 20 m. vor 12 waren wir hermu dann Aszen wir Mittag. Mileage - 57625. Fuhren 12:30 von die Hohle weg kamen wieder bis White City tranken Bier und dann fuhren wir durch Carlsbad von da nach Hohles 3:30. 727 Meil gefahren. 5:30 durch Lamesa. Kauften ein Glas zur Ture.

February 22,1947

Kamen zu Nacht bis Snyder* 1:00 Abendbrot. Fuhren vietel uber 7 fuhren wir los. 10 Uhr bis Breckenridge. Sind zur Nacht bis El Reno, Oklahoma. 436 Meil gefahren. Fuhren 10 minuten vor 6 los und kamen Uhr 8 in Columbus an zur Nacht.

Verlieszen Columbus 10 minuten uber 5. Fuhren bis Yankton, aszen Fruhstuck Uhr 8. Es stumt ein bischen. Aszen halb 3 Uhr Mittag in Sissetm Fuhren 10 minuten vor 6 durch Fargo. Kamen bis Grand Forks zur Nacht.
